COUNTRY MUSIC CRAFT FAIR

Calling all artists and craft people. Carrie’s Place will be holding a craft and country music fair on the 15th of September at the Tin Hut on the grounds of the Maitland RSL. Stands will be avialable free of charge and must be booked in advance through Rebecca at 4934 2585. Country and folk music artists are also invited to perform on the day.

A Day in the life of the Craft Group!

In case your wondering what exactly happens in the Craft group at Carrie’s on High here is a little overview of what goes on!Craft group is held every Thursday and it usually kicks of at 10 am and goes until 12pm. At the moment the women are learning silk painting and have made some beautiful butterflies and dragons. The craft group is a way to have fun, laugh and chat with others as well as putting your artistic skills to the test.The group also does beading, painting, knitting, sewing and any other crafty activity you could possibly imagine and they also get involved in making the decorations for any up and coming event that Carrie’s holds.So if you are interested in putting your crafting skills to the test come and join the women and have some fun!!!!!

Open Day at Carrie’s Place

On the 30th March, Carrie’s Place held an open day at the refuge and invited clients, ex-clients, other workers and interested members of the community. The day was a roaring success, with a large number of attendees and plenty of positive feedback.On the day visitors had the opportunity to learn about what Carrie’s Place does, how it has changed, meet all the old and new workers and get a good look on the freshly renovated inside of the refuge and a tour of the gardens. While guests were enjoying a delicious morning tea and a yummy lunch, we asked them to provide us with feedback about our service. So everyone filled in a questionnaire about their knowledge of and experience with Carrie’s Place.Naturally we also asked for ideas and suggestions to improve our service and what kind of other programs were needed. This day also provided a wonderful opportunity for Carrie’s Place staff to network with other workers in our field, renewing long term partnerships and making new connections. Carrie’s Place would like to thank everyone who attended this special day and gave their valuable input into our service. We hope that every one had a good time and we are looking forward to seeing you again in the future.

TRANSGENDER GROUP FOR MAITLAND AND THE HUNTER

Jamie Swan has joined with Carrie’s Place to form Maitland’s first male to female transgender support group. Jaymie is familiar with the residents after spending her childhood and teen years in and around Maitland. Jaymies concern for the high transgender/gay suicide rate is one of the factors that motivates her to help provide guidance to young people struggling with their sexuality. The transgender group meets once a month.

A support group for women who have survived life’s hard knocks.

Our group will meet on a regular basis at Carrie’s on High on Tuesday’s 12pm – 2pm. Commencing 12^th March. We envisage support, discovery, fun, outings and shared experiences but we need your input.
